The art of tanning leather with vegetable tanning materials is thousands of years old. Originally, this was quite simply a matter of laying the hide in a mixture of salt and oak bark. It was then left for up to a year before it was fuly tanned.
Tarnsjo leather is still tanned with vegetable materials, although these days we use wood extracts to produce faster results, with the result that the tanning process now only takes 3 weeks to be completed.
The result is a leather that breaths better than normal chrome-tanned products. Because no chrome is used, it is also non-allergenic. The leather has an exceptionally attractive surfaces as well as natural ageing properties.
For simplicity, the main catergories are called upholstery leather and strap leather. Certain types of upholstery leather are also very suitable for bags and clothing.
